Hoz de Beteta natural monument and Matasnos sinkhole.

The gorge of Beteta is one of the most spectacular canyons of the Serranía de Cuenca, which is worth visiting for its great botanical, geological and scenic interest, despite the humanized environment. The Guadiela River has sculpted a canyon six kilometers long, giving rise to limestone walls that reach 80 meters in height.

This exclusive landscape is home to unique and singular botanical jewels, more typical of other latitudes. On its rocky walls grow carnivorous plants, while at the foot of the cliffs stand out monumental specimens of linden trees. In the most humid and shady corners, holly, hazel and serval trees offer a natural spectacle that changes with each season.

Geological formations of limestone nature are concentrated in the Hoz de Beteta, making it a point of great geological interest. Chasms, caves and tuffaceous formations add attraction to the landscape, while the ecosystem of the gorge is home to several species of rupicolous birds, such as the griffon vulture, the Egyptian vulture and the peregrine falcon, making this canyon a privileged place for wildlife observation.

La Hoz de Beteta overflows with water at every step, with numerous fountains and waterfalls, some of them enabled as recreational areas, such as the Casa de la Pradera and the Fuente de los Tilos. Three signposted routes allow visitors to get into nature, reach spectacular viewpoints such as the Cueva del Armentero or learn about the botanical richness of the area.

La Hoz de Beteta is, without a doubt, a destination of great environmental value, ideal for hiking, nature photography, enjoying the tranquility or simply taking refuge from the heat in summer.
