The Cervantine Route

Beteta is located in the emblematic Cervantine Route, composed of the most important places in Castilla-La Mancha that are associated with the novel Don Quixote de la Mancha. The route was created as part of the activities for the celebration of the IV Centenary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes.

The tour invites you to explore the landscapes and scenery that inspired Cervantes in the creation of his masterpiece of literature in the Spanish language. The genius of universal literature had a great knowledge of the Serranía de Cuenca and its people, and the truth is that many of the places he describes bear a strong resemblance to places in the area. Miguel de Cervantes visited these lands on more than one occasion to visit his family, which would have allowed him to get to know this area of Cuenca, which, according to Fermín Caballero, is an obvious part of the route of Don Quixote on his journey from Barcelona, through Molina de Aragón.

The relationship between Cervantes and the Serranía de Cuenca is clear, and is documented, when his daughter Isabel managed, together with her husband Don Luis de Molina, the Herrería de Santa Cristina, a hamlet of Carrascosa, located in the vicinity of Beteta.

Today, Beteta is an essential stop for those who wish to delve into the history and landscapes that evoke the exploits of the ingenious nobleman, in a journey that combines culture, nature and the essence of the Cervantine Route.
